How do I choose the fabric for my cleanroom mops or wiping systems?

With so many different applications in controlled environments we broke our answer down to address different sectors within the critical environment marketplace: BioTech/Pharma The most critical areas will require the validated disinfectant to be applied for the required contact time. NovaPoly or PolySorb 100% polyester with enclosed foam is the most efficient and chemically resistant combination for this application. Megatex fabric works well for heavy soil removal or to deal with textured and gritted flooring Microfiber is an effective absorbent fabric – and is available in most of our mop, wipe and sponge designs. It can be used instead of a broom in dry mopping applications in support areas. The microfibers help to trap fine powders in tableting and food production. Microfiber mops are also beneficial in healthcare settings as their sturdy construction allows them to be laundered and re-used multiple times. Electronics/Semiconductor Because of the sensitivity of the critical surfaces in wafer fabs and chip manufacturing areas, de-ionized water is often the only cleaning agent used. For the optimum in fast drying PVA is the material of choice for mopping and wiping/lapping applications. Non-Classified - Food/Cosmetics/Light Industrial Single-use mop heads such as the PharmaPly and NovaSorb will often be the mops of choice for non-classified areas. Packaged for speed and economy, these styles still have the traceability and technical support to re-assure those customers in controlled environments.

NovaClean Detergents, with their 0.1 micron filtration, are designed for semi-conductor/hi-tech applications. Do they also have a value in pharma type cleaning protocols?

Yes, although the NovaClean series of detergents are not disinfectants, they can be used as neutral cleaners between or as an adjunct to disinfection cycles. The fine filtration and surfactant base allow a clean removal of residue build up on stainless steel, ceramics and acrylics.

I know the importance of using stainless steel in my controlled environment. What is the benefit of electropolisihing?

Electropolishing is used to level the surface of most metals. The process smoothes a part by removing more material from the high spots on the metals surface than from the low spots effectively, leveling the grain of the metal. This leveling removes potential sites for stress cracking that will, in most instances, enhance a part’s strength up to the value of its bulk material properties. The smoothing effect also removes sites for chemicals, dirt and microorganisms to become trapped leaving a cleaner and potentially more sterile surface.

The clean peel properties and plastic core render both the vinyl and polyethylene tape suitable for critical applications. Do they also have applications in labs and pharmaceutical environments?

The clean peel and heat resistant properties of the EGV and CR100PC mean it can be used for color-coding and sealing glassware prior to heat/steam sterilization. Our CR100IR vinyl tape is irradiated for those applications were bioburden is of concern.

What is the best tape for 'wet' applications in my lab?

The Polyethylene tape both EGP and PCX, once applied to the substrate, will hold well when immersed in water. Transparent EGP tape is frequently used for over labelling in chemical labs.

What about tape suited to food applications?

The polyethylene and acrylic adhesive that go to make up the PCX and EGP series of tapes comply with FDA approval for indirect food contact.

And tape for extreme temperatures?

The 825 Polyimide Film Tape will hold up to sub-zero temperatures (- 100oF) and high heat (500oF)

Micronova offers both plastic and stainless steel buckets. Is one preferable to the other?

Stainless steel and electropolished stainless steel systems are considered a long term investment. They hold up to multiple uses and heat treatments. Plastic buckets may have a shorter lifetime, but can be color coded and changed out more frequently. The BKL7-3119IR Bucket Liners offer a sterile barrier between the bucket and the disinfectant.

What is the M-Zone?
